This hands-on workshop with Dr. Barbara Faulkner, Associate Professor of Art and Design at Brenau University, offers art educators the opportunity to experiment with torch enameling and to create a one-of-a-kind piece to take home! Guided Tours of “The Ties that Bind” Available!
Brenau Galleries is pleased to offer docent-led tours of “The Ties that Bind: Civil Rights Photography from the High Museum of Art” to adult groups of 5 or more. This unique opportunity is designed to give visitors an engaging experience in which they can learn more about the works in this special exhibit from the High Museum of Art’s Permanent Collection. The photographs in this exhibit follow the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. and highlight the sense of community surrounding the fight for freedom. Tours are offered on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 11:00. Tours must be reserved at least two weeks in advance. “Women’s Work” Oral History Project Videos Now Available

“Women’s Work” was an exhibition and oral history project that explored the relationship between contemporary fiber art and its roots in domesticity and gender-specific roles completed by Brenau Galleries in Summer 2014. Over 30 contemporary Georgia fiber artists from all over the state were represented in the show.
The exhibition and accompanying oral history project allowed artists to explore the relationship they have to fiber art and the techniques which in the past have been considered “Women’s Work.” Almost all of these artists learned the crafts of their trade, sewing, knitting, quilting, etc., from a female family member who was passing down this knowledge as a matter of domestic necessity. All of the artists in Women’s Work have transformed this skills-based beginning into pieces of enormous complexity and meaning.
This project was supported by the Georgia Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities and through appropriations from the Georgia General Assembly.

“All Creatures Great and Small” Tours for Adult Groups

We still have a few dates available for docent-led tours of “All Creatures Great and Small”! Book your tour now to learn more about this special exhibition from the Georgia Museum of Art’s Permanent Collection and the Collection of Carl and Marian Mullis. The exhibit features works depicting animals by notable self-taught artists including R. A. Miller, Mose Tolliver, and Lonnie Holley. Tours are offered to adult groups of ten or more on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 10:30 through December 4th. Tours must be reserved at least two weeks in advance. Brenau University Students Exhibit Artwork at the High Museum of Art
On Sunday, November 9th, Brenau students, faculty, staff and friends gathered to celebrate the opening of the 2nd Annual Student Art and Design Exhibition at the High Museum of Art. The exhibition, on display in the Greene Family Education Center November 4th-December 7th, showcases over 70 works created by Brenau Students. From interior design renderings and banners to ceramics, paintings, and mixed media works, the exhibit offers a glimpse into the incredible talents of our students.
Courtney Orme, an Interior Design Professional, and Didi Dunphy, Director of the Lyndon House Art Center in Athens, served as the adjudicators for the exhibit.
