The Evolution of Scientific Bird Art with Dr. Michael Stubblefield

Join Brenau University and Dr. Michael Stubblefield for a virtual evening of flight and fancy celebrating the history of scientific bird artwork. Stubblefield is an avid nature photographer, birder and art collector. His impressive collection of personal photographs and historical prints reveal the wonder of the natural world and, specifically, of the beautiful birds among us. Stubblefield will utilize artwork from his collection to discuss the beginnings and development of ornithological art and its most important historical figures.Stubblefield has been instrumental in the growth of Brenau’s Permanent Art Collection via the Arader Art Fund, and many of the artists and works that he will be discussing now have parallels in Brenau’s own collection.
The event is hosted by Brenau University in coordination with the Brenau University Galleries, the Department of External Relations, and the W. Graham Arader Art Fund and Initiative.

About Dr. Michael Stubblefield
Dr. Michael Stubblefield is an accomplished professional nature photographer, writer, art collector, and birder. His natural history images and articles have appeared in hundreds of publications across the globe and he has won several awards for both his photography and writing. He and his wife Elyn have traveled all over the world exploring and photographing the wonders of nature. Their collection of images numbers well over 100,000 and includes hundreds of species of birds in addition to scores of mammals, fish, and other critters as well as spectacular scenes of some of the world’s most diverse and beautiful landscapes.
Dr. Stubblefield is the national medical director for the ReVital Cancer Rehabilitation Program and the architect of comprehensive cancer rehabilitation programs across Select Medical’s national network of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals and outpatient therapy centers. In addition, Dr. Stubblefield serves as director of cancer rehabilitation at Select Medical’s Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange, NJ. He is triple board certified in the fields of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), Internal Medicine, and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. Dr. Stubblefield has authored numerous scientific articles and book chapters on cancer rehabilitation and is the editor of “Cancer Rehabilitation: Principles and Practice”, the only comprehensive textbook on cancer rehabilitation.
